Bretton Woods Trip Review
February 7-9, 2003

The snow conditions at Bretton Woods for NERSFL’s second winter trip of the 2003 season were fabulous. Lots of powdery snow and deep tracks. This should not have been any surprise as most of us traveled through up to a foot of rapidly falling snow and lots of traffic on Friday to get there.

But everyone arrived safely and ready to ski or snowshoe Saturday morning. Thirty-one VIP skiers and guides enjoyed moderate temperatures, sunshine, and a large variety of trail options as NERSFL returned to Bretton Woods for the first time in several years. We found the same quality trail grooming and variety of challenge that we remember as well as some interesting new additions. The large tubing hill looked like a lot of fun. And Sara, Marie and Cindy did steal a little time away from x-c skiing to experience the novelty of a dogsled ride.

We extend a hearty welcome to new guides Dick, Linda, Leland, Ed and Francie and to new VIP skiers Jen and Kay. They all were exemplary first timers and we look forward to their returns next winter (and don’t forget our summer trips!).

And who were those people playing Braille Scrabble apres ski? Not the VIP’s – they must have been among the group swimming in the indoor pool or relaxing in the hot tub. A fun raffle – Melanie did a super job as MC – and more than our required quotient of laughter and good conversation rounded out the weekend.

As we wish for more weekends of good ski conditions before the season is over or count the days til spring, we can eagerly anticipate NERSFL’s summer activities. They will include biking, hiking, canoeing and FUN FUN FUN. Stay tuned!
