Greetings

We have a great program planned for the upcoming summer months. We have an awesome group of folks and board members that have contributed their support to the mission of NERSFL.

Website

We’ve done it! We have a new website up and running at an easy-to-remember address. Just go to www.nersfl.org to get all of the latest info on our upcoming trips, reminisce about past trips via our archives, and download health and application forms. Communicom, an internet service provider on Cape Cod, has graciously donated website hosting to us free of charge. We are grateful to NERSFL member Dave Fisichella for soliciting Communicom’s assistance, to Arthur Comegno and Duane Farrar, our able webmasters, and to the other members of the NERSFL website committee, Cindy Wentz and Sue Crowley, for their continuing work on the website.

Survey

Along with this newsletter you will see a short survey form. We hope you will take a few minutes to complete it and return it to NERSFL. We truly want to hear from you with your preferences and ideas so that NERSFL can continue to grow and flourish.

Projects

We are interested in a number of projects to enhance the activity level and quality of NERSFL. Some of these projects include

*Determining a new and original logo for our regional group...several board members have made submissions and we welcome your input as well.
*Delivering this newsletter in the accessible format of your choice, braille, large print, cassette, computer disk or regular print. One method that would save money for the group would be to e-mail the newsletter. Please indicate on the enclosed survey the format of your choice.
*Adding more activities in the months of May and October.
*Changing our email address to coincide with our web site and developing e-mail addresses so that board members may be contacted directly.

Please bear with us as we struggle in determining the most efficient manner to implement these projects. Nearly all board members are employed full time and volunteer their personal time in addressing the program needs of NERSFL.

The Store

Because of the logistics of transporting store items to and from events, the board of directors has elected to dissolve The Store. There remain many items for sale. If you would like any items from the store, please send a check with your request. Here is a listing of items that are still available. Donation includes price and shipping charges.

Please make payments by check made out to N.E. Regional Ski for Light and mail to NERSFL, P.O.Box 234, Foxboro, MA 02035-0234. You are required to submit total payments for the three one-day trips. You must submit a deposit of $25 for the weekend trip in August. All deposits must be received by June 1st. The balance due for the AMC trip must be received by July 1st. All deposits are nonrefundable. The balance for the AMC trip is also nonrefundable unless your space can be filled. We will do our best to assist you to find a substitute, but it is ultimately your responsibility to find a replacement.

Forms

Enclosed for your completion please find an application form, personal health form, and a liability/consent for treatment form. If you have not already done so for 2001, all forms must be completely filled out, signed, and returned to NERSFL before your participation in any event can be confirmed. For your own health and safety, NERSFL requires all participants, sighted or not, to complete the personal health form. This confidential record requires your candid, accurate, and legible completion. Every item in every section must be completed. Mark N/A if any section is not applicable to you.

Physical Condition

Anyone in average physical condition can expect to complete these events. If we have any questions about your ability to participate we will call and discuss the matter with you. In questionable cases the decision to participate will be that of the participant and his or her physician. Participants must take responsibility for control of any health problems at these events, not only for your own safety, but also for that of others. Your enjoyment will also be enhanced by any measures you take to improve your physical fitness and stamina before the event.

Transportation

Transportation will be available by car-pooling. You will be contacted about a week before an event to make travel arrangements. Guides are encouraged to let us know if they are willing to drive and how many passengers they will be able to take. All passengers are expected to contribute generously towards the cost of gasoline. Please note that if you are coming to an event from out of town, do not make travel plans (flights, trains, bus, etc.) prior to 7:00 PM on Sunday. It is very difficult to guarantee a return to transportation centers prior to this time without disrupting other participants.

Thanks!

Thanks from all of us at New England Regional Ski for Light for your attention to these highlights and details. Our next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 19th. If you have any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions, please let us know before the fall meeting.
