1999 SUMMER EVENTS

SUNDAY, MAY 23,1999 - COASTAL HIKE

We will be going on a very interesting hike at the World's End Peninsula in Hingham, Massachusetts.  This is a new event for us and should prove to be very exciting.  The 4 - 5 mile hike will be along a well marked trail straddling a marsh and the ocean.  We will be having a picnic on a grassy area near the trail, so bring your own bagged lunch and a drink.  There is no rain date for this activity and in the event of a light rain, we will still be going on the hike.  The cost for this event is just $5.00. Hiking boots are optional.  Reserve early as space is limited to 30 people.

AUGUST 13 - 15,1999 - AMC SUMMER WEEKEND

We will be staying in a cozy lodge at the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center.  On Saturday, activities begin with breakfast and then an all day canoe adventure on a nearby lake or flat-water river.  Instruction, natural history anecdotes and flora/fauna interpretation will be an integral and fun part of the day.  A sit-down dinner will be served family style at the Lodge.  On Sunday, we will participate in an hour long interpretive program and then a hike on a nearby trail.  The hike will conclude mid afternoon with a lunch enjoyed on the trail.  Cost per person for the weekend, including Saturday breakfast, trail lunch and dinner, as well as Sunday breakfast and trail lunch is $80.  Rooms are shared bunkroom and shared baths.  Taxes and canoe rental are included.  Please reserve early as space is limited.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19,1999 - NATURE HIKE

We will be participating in a nature walk somewhere on the North Shore.  Details are still being finalized.  The cost for the trip is just $5.00.  Bring your own lunch.

PLEASE NOTE:
PLEASE HELP OUR COMMITTEE AND INSURE YOUR SPACE BY REGISTERING EARLY AND MEETING PAYMENT DUE DATES!!!  If interested in any trip, please pay in full for those trips you plan on attending NO later than May 15.  It is critical that you respond by this date to ensure availability.  Unless otherwise notified, consider yourself registered when your payment is received.  Please send in your payments on time as this keeps NERSFL costs down!!!  If you cancel late, your money is only refundable subject to costs incurred by NERSFL.  Make checks payable to N.E. Regional Ski for Light and send to: Claire Morrissette, 16 Cedar Lane, Foxboro, MA 02035.

Please find an application form, personal health history survey, and a liability release/consent for treatment, found on this web site under ApplicationForms. All forms must be completely filled out, signed and returned to SFL before your participation in any event can be confirmed.

For your own health and safety, Ski for Light requires all participants, sighted or not, to
complete the attached personal health history form. This confidential record requires your
candid, accurate and legible completion. Every item in every section must be completed. Mark
N/A if any section is not applicable to you.

Anyone in average physical condition can expect to complete these events.  If we have any questions about your ability to participate we will call and discuss the matter with you.  In questionable cases the decision to participate will be that of the participant and his or her physician.  Participants must take responsibility for control of any health problems.  For example, those with insulin dependent diabetes must monitor their blood glucose levels daily.  We really need you to take a high level of personal responsibility for your health and well being at this event not only for your own safety but for that of others.  Your enjoyment will also be enhanced by any measures you take to improve your physical fitness and stamina before the event.

Although Guide Dogs are welcome on the trips, there are restrictions that may eliminate your participation in the Sunday activities.  Guide Dogs are not allowed in canoes or nature hikes for safety reasons.  On Sundays (after checkout time in the AM) you will be responsible for attending to your dog, as there are no local kennels.  Please consider this when deciding to bring your dog or not.

Transportation will be available by car-pooling.  You will be contacted about a week prior to departure to make travel arrangements.  Guides are encouraged to let us know if they are willing, to drive and how many passengers they will be able to take.  All passengers are expected to "chip in" for gasoline.

Please note that if you are coming to an event from out of town, DO NOT make your travel plans (air flights, train, bus, etc.) prior to 7:00 PM on Sunday.  It is very difficult to get back to transportation centers prior to this time without disrupting many other participants.

We look forward to seeing many familiar as well as many new friends this summer.  See you soon.
